Module 11: Employer feedback (midpoint and endpoint)

Employer feedback and the opportunity to ask questions is a key component of ensuring a work placement or employer encounter is “meaningful”. It is recognised that this can be the most challenging aspect of work experience, especially if working in a virtual way. This module provides a guide to ensuring meaningful interaction can occur and gives suggestions as to how to enable such in various scenarios at both the midpoint and endpoint of the experience.

Midpoint Q&A Interaction

Suggested duration

  • In line with agreed deadlines. 
  • Employer time: 
    • 30 minutes for midpoint responses to questions 30 minutes for endpoint feedback following presentations

Employer outcomes

  • Feedback to students particularly in relation to their workplace challenge draft solutions through Q&A session
  • Opportunity for employees to develop their own skills to support the process

Student outcomes

  • Develop time management skills to enable an effective Q&A session
  • Opportunity to engage with employer and gain feedback on work to date to enable modification and further development
  • Experience a process of receiving and responding effectively to feedback, linking to teacher feedback in school / college

Educator outcomes

  • A scheduled structure and method of communicating with the employer
  • Opportunity to highlight the importance of a feedback cycle and the link to teacher feedback to support learning

Endpoint feedback to student presentations

(approximately 15 mins per student / group)

Employer outcomes

  • Gain an insight into the views and solutions of students in response to the different elements of the placement experience Module 2 (Formulating a travel plan), Module 5 (Being an effective employee) and Module 8 (workplace challenge)
  • Opportunity for employees to develop their own skills through offering constructive feedback to students

Student outcomes

  • Opportunity to engage with an employer audienc
  • Opportunity to reflect on the workplace experience

Educator outcomes

  • Audience of employers to give feedback which can be discussed with students in relation to their experience to support continuous improvement
