SEND Students and the North East Labour Market

Young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are entitled to have the opportunity to reach their career goal and to enjoy experiencing the fulfilment this journey can bring.

How we can help

Having a job is about so much more than earning money. It’s about feeling valued, becoming independent, and being personally fulfilled.

We can help you to understand:

Career opportunities in the North East

The North East is made up of seven different local authorities. These are County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland.

There are different types of sectors and jobs in each of these areas. Our employment map shows the most biggest employers in each area, so you can see what kinds of opportunities are most common in different places.

Pathways into employment

Every young person is different and, for your next steps in education or employment, you have lots of different options open to you.

We can help you to:

  • help you to understand these different pathways into employment
  • help you decide which route is best for you
  • help you understand what qualifications are needed for certain jobs

This is important, as you need to be happy in whatever you choose to do next.

For more information, you can look at the qualification section of each of the job roles in the ‘Sector of Interest’ section of this website.

Facilitator guide and materials

This suite of educational material is aimed at careers leaders and other education providers who are working with SEND students. It's designed to help students understand more about workplaces, job roles, and how to access work experience opportunities.

The course contains 8 modules, and we've provided a faciliatator guide and some student worksheets for each one.
