Higher Technical Education (HTE) includes a range of employer-informed pathways designed to develop the higher-level technical skills needed in today's and tomorrow's workforce. These include Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), higher and degree apprenticeships, Institute of Technology programmes and other Level 4 and 5 qualifications.
HTE provides practical routes into skilled careers, supports progression to higher-level study and helps meet employer demand for technical skills across key sectors.
Flexible learning options are available through colleges, universities and training providers, making Higher Technical Education an attractive choice for learners looking to advance their careers and employment opportunities.
From September 2026 there is also a new funding stream to support adults over 18 years access funding to HTE study.
