In partnership with North of Tyne Combined Authority, the North East Local Enterprise Partnership has an exciting opportunity for your school or college to be a part of a 1-year pilot (2022-2023) “Linking Curriculum Learning to the World of Work” with a focus on STEM and specifically Physics. The pilot will focus on links to Year 8 or Year 9 teaching (KS3).
Pilot aims
- To support curriculum leaders and teachers across North of the Tyne to engage effectively with local employers
- Empower young people at KS3 with the knowledge and understanding to make informed decisions including progression to level 3 STEM subjects
In addition, the pilot provides schools an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their work towards achieving Gatsby Good Careers Benchmark 4 – Linking curriculum learning to careers which states “All subject staff should link curriculum learning with careers. For example, STEM subject staff should highlight the relevance of STEM subjects for a wide range of future career paths”
One of the three aims of the Key Stage 3 National curriculum is to ensure pupils are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. Through this pilot, teachers will gain real-life context, examples from the world of work that can make subjects easier to understand for students and help them become more engaged in their learning. It will also provide wider benefits for teachers and their pupils by engaging with employers.
